May Bell (Fraser) Munro

February 7, 2017

MUNRO, May Bell (nee Fraser) February 17, 1920 - February 7, 2017

Our dear Mom passed away peacefully at Eastholme, Powassan, Ontario in her 97th year after living her final twelve years in a slow but steady decline caused by Alzheimer’s Disease. May was the wife of the late John Angus Munro (1915-1994) and cherished mother of Darleen Munro (the late Alan Roberts) of Kitchener, Fraser Munro (Julie Forbes) of North Bay and Hugh Munro (Valerie Kunkel) of Powassan. Proud grandmother of Veronica of Sheffield, Erica of Penticton, B.C., Neil of North Bay area and the late Robert; and great-grandmother of Connor, Brooke, Kayleigh, McKayla and Cody. Loving sister of Douglas Fraser (Donna) of Saskatoon, SK, and predeceased by siblings Edwin Fraser, Grace Long (the late Chester), Dave Fraser (the late Hilda), Ethel Geisler (the late Art) and Erva Rowlandson (the late Bob). May took great pleasure in operating the family campground MUNRO PARK that she and her husband began developing together 50 years ago. They made many special friends during the years they operated the business in Powassan. Some of her favourite activities were participating in the Powassan Fall Fair, winning at Bingo, Women’s Institute and her special years with the Golden Sunshine Club. We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to the amazing staff at Eastholme who provided such loving care to May these past six years. They were the angels in her life when she was at her most vulnerable — always there with compassion during the last six years of her long journey. May was also fortunate to have a special friend who was there for her when the family couldn’t be — how can we ever repay your love and kindness Marcia? We appreciate your concern and caring for May more than words can express. In keeping with May’s wishes cremation has taken place and her family will be having a private graveside service at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to the Golden Sunshine Club (cheques only) are suggested.
