Mr. Kilroy, (I still feel I should call him that even after 34 years since he was my math teacher), was a great teacher and a very nice person! I am very sorry to hear of his passing, and I will never never forget his encouragement and faith in me.

Someone once said, "Kindness is my religion", then Pat was a religious man and great men lead by example then Pat was a truly 'great' teacher.

These lessons are not lost or forgotten.

Pat was an all round nice guy! He was a skilled and motivating basketball coach, a dynamic and knowledgeable math teacher, and a sensitive and charismatic community person. I am honoured to have known Pat as a colleague, as a teacher who exhibited great patience with my son who was not a strong math student, and as a community person who encouraged  my grandchildren to love being around big horses.
Pat , you will be greatly missed.

To all Pat's family, my deepest sympathy, all those wonderful memories will keep Pat's lively spirit alive in you all!  I will cherish all the huge warm hugs I received from Pat. I thought special as every other person he gave the same hug to!! Kathy you will remember the day Pat decided to give us your first pony Scout. He insisted I ride the pony from your home on the concession road to our place in Rutherglen. I had never ridden before!!   It must have been quite a site , myself on the pony and Pat sitting tall on his Mule. When it started to rain Pat puts on his slicker and I have nothing and he says "Did you not come prepared"? Oh well just continue so we did. With a quarter of the way left my husband Knowlton arrived with a relief rider!  I could barely get off the pony!  The next day Pat called and asked" How is Scout"? I said fine but I will never be the same, he said it was a great ride and I would be fine after a warm soak and get back up on the pony!!!!!!!!!!!   Thank you Pat and Kathy!!!
love Jani

I saw the notice this morning on my way in to Oshells. In shock, I made it in to the parlour to see the pictures and share my great sadness at learning of Pat's passing. I had not seen Pat in many years but warmly remember seeing him and the girls on the trails, and the early days of starting the formal ski club with Ted and Bill.
My kids and I skied at "Kilroy's" (as we called it even years after the family moved on) many times and enjoyed Pat's good company whenever we could....
I admired Pat very much. He was a good teacher, a good dad and a good man. So sad today.
Take care of each other.

As fellow Sudburians and St.Charle's College students my friendship with Pat and memories of the times we spent playing basketball at St.Charles or outdoors and shinny in Lockerby were passions we shared and spent hours doing.
Pat was good friends with Kerry Keenan and often asked about him and Dick Lauzon when we met.Kerry passed away two years ago from cancer.
There was always something special about that Kilroy manner and hearty laugh whenever we met and reminisced.
It was great coming to North Bay and working with Pat at St.Joseph 's College where he was equally respected and admired for the same easy going manner and love of teaching that was always about the students first, for a brief time before going to Chippewa.
It was great when our family got togeher with you on the farm or ran into Pat at Mathew's where he was so involved with his other passions and could always make them fun and teachable moments for all ,especially the younger one's.
Not having seen you or Pat for some time we wanted to share how special those times were and  hope they can bring some comfort and a smile about someone who did likewise in bringing so much happiness and smiles to others.

Mr. Kilroy was my grade 13 Relations teacher.  I was not his best student but being the teacher that he was he recognized the different abilities student had and worked with that.  Always supportive throughout that year.  There are many memories.  Many years after Chippewa I ran into Pat who greeted me by name and with a hardy handshake.  He was an excellent teacher and a friend.  My thoughts are with his family.

To me, Uncle Pat was a man who let you know that he had high expectations in you, but what I remember most are the smiles, the handshakes and the few hugs that encouraged me to meet those expectations.  I am very lucky to have met him and am blessed to be able to think of him and each of you as family.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Reading all the heartfelt condolences expressed by so many students compelled me to write about Pat as a colleague whom I worked with for many years.
If students found Pat to be a great teacher, so did his colleagues.  He was an educator to emulate and his fellow teachers looked up to him with admiration.  Strict but fair, Pat had high expectations for all his students and he was one of those teachers responsible for setting high standards, thereby making Chippewa S. S. known for its academic successes in our community as well as provincially.
His students excelled in provincial math contests, underlining his dedication, his skill and his drive.
Before classes, at lunch and after school, Pat was there to assist, explain and facilitate.
Balance in life also separated Pat from so many others.  Outside the classroom, he coached so many students and made them want to play for him and their school.  He had much to do with Chippewa's strong girls' basketball program.
His laughter and energy inspired us all.
Aside from teaching, he had his family and his animals which gave him a balanced perspective and great stories to tell.
As colleagues and students, we were blessed to have him in our lives.  His ideals will reverberate in the halls of Chippewa for a long time.
We are thankful to his family for sharing him with us.

Condolences to Kilroy family and friends.

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Kilroy for math at Chippewa in 1999. He was truly an amazing teacher. He was so supportive and wanted everyone to succeed. His enthusiasm and energy were always evident (don't know how he did it!).

I admire the way he always pushed and supported us at the same time. A rare quality. Reading about and remembering Mr. Kilroy is inspiring me as a teacher today. I am blessed to have had his as a teacher.

To Kathy, Robin, Tanya & all of the family!
Pat was an energetic, enthusiastic, caring, talented person who gave his all to anything that he did! Teaching with Pat at CSS was so meaningful as he did his best to get as much as possible from his students that he taught & coached! He was a great friend & he will be remembered for the way he was during his good years!

It was unfortunate that after we retired we would often meet at the hospital but he always had a big hug for Carol & solid handshake for me as we shared stories & memories at CSS. He often talked fondly about his family, horses, or dogs as he loved them all.

My prayers of comfort are with all of you! RIP good friend!

Take care! ... Bud, Ian & Julie

My condolences to all of Mr. Kilroy's family. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing. He was my basketball coach in high school and his enthusiasm and energy inspired me. He worked so hard with "his girls" to bring out the best in us. Before classes began he would meet us in the gym to play 21 and improve our shooting. When we met in the halls we got that little fist pump on the shoulder. He was proud of us and we loved playing for him. Seeing him after he retired he still had the bounce in his step and the twinkle in his eye. He was a man who loved life and he radiated it to everyone he met. I will think of him often and my memories will bring a smile to my face.

Deepest condolences to Kathleen and family.  Pat was a wonderful teacher - always had lots of fun in his class, even when he was serious about the math, he still encouraged everyone to meet their highest standard.  Years later running into him on occasion - he never forgot a name - you could hear his boisterous laugh from a mile away and he was always smiling.  RIP Pat!

I never had Mr. Kilroy as a student but my friends had him. I graduated in 88 and he always remembered me by name. He was a wonderful man that was passionate about teaching. Then years later I met up with him again at Matthews Maple Syrup Farm. Both my girls enjoyed doing the sleigh ride with his work horses. A great man and he will be truly missed. Like many others here I had Mr. Kilroy as a teacher in Chippewa.

Many fond memories of time in his class and a great appreciation for the extra help he gave those of us who participated in the yearly math contests.

He was a great man and a great teacher and he will be missed.

I had Mr. Kilroy in high school many years ago (85 to 90).  He was one of those few teachers that truly impacts his students' lives.  I am a better person for having had him as a teacher.

He was by far the best teacher I ever had, in terms of caring about his students, and in preparing us for life after high school.

My condolences go out to his family.  He always spoke proudly of his daughters (and of his horses).  You lost a great person.

(Ironic that I need to do a math question below to post this - That would make Mr. Kilroy laugh).

I have been away from North Bay for a few years and was not aware that Pat wasn't well.  I am so saddened by this news and can only imagine how deeply you will feel his loss.  Pat was a truly wonderful man.  He was kind, he was gifted, he was generous.  He was friendly.  His amazing gift of communicating with animals is worthy of a Hollywood movie.  When I lived in Chisholm, I had a knock on my door one late winter morning.  It was Pat.  I'm stuck in the bush back a ways he said and I'm getting my team to pull me out - but I need someone to drive the truck.  And so, I headed out to drive the truck and watched in amazement as Pat guided his two beautiful mares to pull the truck and trailer up a slushy, muddy, slippery hill and out of the bush.  At one point, one of the mares went down.  Pat stood and rested his hand on her rump and spoke to her so gently.  Suddenly, up she got and next thing I knew we were up the hill and everything was safe.  So many rides, so many hugs, so much love.  Pat Kilroy - one in a million.  Heaven is very lucky indeed to receive you.

My deepest sympathy to your family.

He was definitely the most memorable teacher; his exuberant spirit and tireless patience helped me through a difficult subject (math). I remember fondly that after several years of struggling I switch to a new math class called Business Math and at the end of the year assembly I received a math award for that class. I was not expecting an award and when they called my name I remember looking at him and he and both started to laugh. Later in the hall he gave me a big hug and said I knew you could do it - we laughed again and I said I guess terms like interest and amortization are my stronger suit.

Sadly missed.

My condolences and my heart goes out to Mr. Kilroy's family and close friends.

Mr. Kilroy was my teacher for Grade 11 math way back in the year 2000 at Chippewa. I recall his exuberance and commitment to the subject and his students very clearly - he was always there for us on lunch letting us take (and retake) practice tests, and he didn't dumb down the subject to appease the lowest common denominator. He expected a lot out of us but he was very fair.

One of Mr. Kilroy's favourite stories to tell (I learned after speaking with friends in higher grades) was to tell us all that his daughter moved away for University and he didn't talk to her for a whole YEAR! He hung on that and searched our faces for reactions. Many of us were shocked ... and then he finished by telling us of this amazing new technology called "email" that he used to keep in touch with her every week :)

I remember him fondly and I want you to know that he touched many lives, and even though I was terrible in math he was one of my favourite teachers.
