DEAN, Matthew Jeffrey

After a valiant struggle with ALS, Matthew Dean died, Friday, January 11, 2019, surrounded by loving family at North Bay Regional Health Centre. He was forty years of age. Matthew was the beloved husband of Gemma F. (Wolfe) Dean and loving father of Carter and Harrison. He was the dear son of “Betty” Elizabeth J. (Heasman) Dean, and brother of Joshua (Sarah), Andrew (Andrea), and Alyssa all of North Bay. Matthew was a cherished grandson of Winona and the late Austin Heasman. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his niece and nephews, camp friends, and the international teaching community. Matthew taught elementary school in Japan, Bahrain, Moscow and Singapore, as well as in Iroquois Falls, Ontario. He was a traveller and a teacher of the world. FOllowing his Katimavik experience and prior to his teaching career, Matthew was a camp leader at Tim Horton's Camp in Alberta, and Camp Summit in B.C. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be announced later in the spring of 2019.
