Markus, Tryntje “Truus” (nee Van Rijs)

Truus died peacefully at Eastholme Home for the Aged, Powassan, ON on Monday, February 25, 2019. She was in her 94th year. Truus was born in 1925 in Zevenhuizen, The Netherlands. She immigrated to Canada in 1956 with her husband Cornelis Markus, son Adri, and daughter Mieke. They settled in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, in Conestogo, where Truus lived for 40 years after the death of her husband in 1970. Her son Adrian “Adri” died in 1986 of Lou Gehrig’s disease. Truus is survived by siblings Ada (Herman) and Anne (Hank); sisters-in-law Betty and Tena; a daughter Mieke (Art Krause) of Powassan and daughter-in-law Theresa Markus of Kitchener; and grandchildren Nicholas (Candice), Jeffrey, Bradley, Sara (Lindsay), Christine (Joshua), Marcus (Melissa) and Alexander (Emily); as well as 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings Dick (Grace), Keith, Len, Jane, Alida, Adrianus, and Corinna. Her family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. A graveside service, followed by interment in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Cemetery, Conestogo, beside her husband, will be announced in the spring.
