Allan, a man of remarkable kindness and courage, peacefully departed on Sunday, July 7th, 2024, surrounded by the love and respect of his family and friends.
He was the beloved husband of Carol (Croghan) from Powassan, adored father and best friend of Kate Griese from North Bay, and dear brother of Barb Howe (Gerry) from Chisholm. For Kit Kat, Maggie Mae, and Chester, he reluctantly became the King of Cats, dedicated to their care, fulfilling their every need.
Allan was known for his kindness, generosity, humor, and profound knowledge across a wide range of subjects—he truly had a brilliant mind. He was always willing to offer a helping hand or sage advice, embodying the qualities of an exceptional teacher with unparalleled patience. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, as well as by Harbour Freight Tools and Grand Buffet.
Following a long career with Ontario Northland, Allan relished his retirement, joyfully dedicating his time to restoring cars, building engines, attending classic car gatherings, and hosting gatherings for loved ones. Not long before he passed away, Allan reflected on his life with deep satisfaction. He believed he had lived a fulfilling life, blessed with a loving marriage, a cherished daughter, and incredible friends. Allan reveled in the freedom to pursue his passions, enjoying a long retirement split between sunny winters in Florida and the rest of the year at their beautiful home, meticulously crafted by him and Carol in a serene forest setting. His garage, a sanctuary of automotive mastery, reflected his deep love for cars and craftsmanship which he loved to share with others.
Angels surrounded him throughout his journey—Bill Finnis, the compassionate VON nurses, the dedicated HomeCare team, the caring paramedics, and the skilled ER doctors and nurses in North Bay, with a special mention to Dr. Yates. We are also grateful for the care provided by his GP Dr. Quinn, and Dr. Gauthier from the MAID team. Their unwavering support meant the world to us, and we cannot adequately express our gratitude.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held by his family and friends at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to All Heart Pet Rescue would be appreciated.
