It is with sadness that the family of Tony announces his death at the South Lake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, at the age of 89 years, on Monday, August 19, 2024. Tony was a loving brother and uncle to his family. He loved and cherished get-togethers with nieces and nephews and friends at the cottage at Eagle Lake.
Tony was an avid reader of history and sports. He played baseball and fastball until his passion continued as a coach for a South River league for many years. During his years in South River, he worked in the lumber mill industry and Dupont plant until he retired.
Tony was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 390 South River and active volunteer with the South River Seniors Club. He was strongly involved in his faith and St. Augustine’s Church, South River.
In April of 2022, Tony moved to Powassan.
He is survived by his brother Sam (Rebecca, deceased) of Huntsville, Ontario and his sisters Rose and Marie of North Bay, Ontario. Tony was predeceased by his parents Bruno and Carolina, his brother Bill (Judy, surviving), brother Ralph (Mieke) and sisters Josephine and Tina.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Tony during his stay in hospital.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 11:00 am, at St. Joseph’s Church, Powassan. Interment of ashes at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Trout Creek will take place at a later date.
Donations in Tony’s memory to the ALS Society of Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, would be gratefully appreciated by his family.
