Called to eternal rest by his Lord and Saviour, at North Bay Regional Health Centre on June 6, 2025, in his 102nd year. Predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Dorcas Swalwell (1921--1999). Loving father of Timothy Gehrke and Jeanine Nicolle (Gary). Beloved grandfather of Summer Murnaghan (Dan) and Courtney Mancini (Matt). Great-Grandpa Gehrke (GGG) will be lovingly remembered by great-grandsons Lucan and Liam Murnaghan, and James and Andrew Mancini.
Fondly remembered by nephew John Gehrke (Thelma), great-niece Ashley Youngblut (Carlos), and great-great niece Alexis Youngblut. The last of his generation, Arnold was predeceased by his parents Herman and Elsie (Haufe) Gehrke of Commanda ON (1966), and brothers Wallace (Gladys) 1984 and Albert (Audrey) (1988).
Retired in 2018, as owner for over 50 years of Arnold Gehrke Sales and Antiques and Other Things in Port Loring, Arnold was blessed with good health and many long years. Arnold lived a life full of optimism and gratitude, shaped by his second chance at life post WWII, and assurance of eternal life with his Creator.
The family would like to thank Drs. Richard Trenker and Benjamin Reitzel for their care and enduring friendship, Veterans Canada for their recognition and remembrance, and the staff of Marina Point Village in North Bay for their compassion and care. A special thanks to staff at North Bay Regional Health Centre.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to “special friend” and caregiver Rita Scherba for her unwavering dedication and compassion which made a profound difference in Arnold’s life and brought comfort to our family. We are eternally grateful.
