Bernard “Bernie” Cecil Ulrick
September 14, 1934 - July 30, 2023
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Bernard Ulrick, age 88, on July 30, 2023, with family by his side.
Bernie was born to Felix and Agnes Ulrick on September 14, 1934 in Powassan, Ontario. Upon the death of his mother only a day after his birth, he joined his maternal aunt and uncle‘s household and was raised along with his nine Kunkel “brothers and sisters”.
Bernie married Mona Warner in 1957 and moved to Sault Ste. Marie, where their family began. Four sons later, they relocated to Mississauga and then lastly to Etobicoke. Bernie was a dedicated hockey coach and league convenor, a devoted Catholic and Knight of Columbus, a career lumberman and business owner. He and Mona spent many happy years at their cottage on Ruth Lake, making memories with their growing family. They travelled widely, enjoyed ice skating with childhood friends well into retirement, and were known to walk hand in hand for more than sixty years.
In 1989, Bernie donated a kidney to his son Paul, a gift which continues to flourish to this day, and remains an ongoing legacy of a life devoted to family and friends.
In 2021, Bernie moved from the family home to join Mona at Cawthra Gardens LTC in Mississauga, where they were able to spend the last few months of her life under the same roof. With Bernie’s passing, they are truly reunited at last.
Bernie is survived by his four sons, Timothy (Lenore) of Orangeville, Paul (Mary) of Mississauga, Mark (the late Judy) of Mississauga and Greg (Lorraine) of Waubaushene, along with seven grandchildren, Kyle, Erin (Phil), Ryan (Ashley), Candice, Amanda (Jay), Adam (Ally), Courtney (Alex), and ten great-grandchildren. He was beloved Uncle Bernie to many nieces and nephews, and an exceptionally good neighbour and friend to all those who knew him.
The family thanks staff at Cawthra Gardens LTC for their kind care of both Mona and Bernie, and for their support for the extended Ulrick family over the last four years.
