MYRE, Betty Mae
It is with heartache and great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Mae Myre on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at the Rockyview Hospital, Calgary, Alberta, surrounded by her family. Born on October 2nd, 1941, in West Lorne, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Wallace & Sarah Rose (Purcell).
She will be lovingly remembered as the beloved wife of the late Phil Myre, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was loving, trusting and a great listener who always took the time to make special memories with each and every person she loved.
After leaving home, she worked at the Belmont Grill in North Bay where she met the love her life, Philip Homer Myre. On December 10th, 1959, they were married and in 1963 they adopted the first of their three children. She started working at the Psychiatric Hospital at a young age, then went on to nursing school and obtained her nursing degree. After an injury, she changed careers and went on to work and retire from the accounting department at the North Bay Jail. She then moved to Calgary, where she lived with her daughter and granddaughter and started working at the Safeway, where she was employed for six years and made many friends who remained in her life after she retired.
She is survived by her daughter, Annalea, Calgary AB, sons David (Janice) of Kentville NS and Ted (Angela) of Edmonton AB; sister Sylvanna McQuoid & brother Ted (Rose Marie) Rose; 5 grandchildren, Jesse, Mercedes, Cody, Keanu and Shaylynn as well as her 4 great grandchildren, Zariah, Aries, Raige and Elliot and her special British son, Andrew McDermott (Manchester, England) who always called her his Canadian mother. She was predeceased by her husband Phil, her beloved sister Virginia & brother’s in-law Bud Anderson & Gerald McQuoid.
The Myre family will receive visitors at Powassan Wesleyan Church, on Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 am. A memorial service will follow at 11:00, officiated by Pastor David Johnston. Interment of ashes will take place on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 10:00 am at Nipissing Cemetery.
