Mary Carmel Theresa Kelly Ulrick
On Wednesday, May 25, 2022, Carmel Theresa (Kelly) Ulrick, formerly of Powassan and Chisholm Township, aged 91 years, died peacefully at Muskoka Shores Care Community in Gravenhurst Ontario. Born near Smiths Falls, Ontario, she was the daughter of Emmett and Mary (O’Donahue) Kelly. Carmel is the beloved mother of Ruth Holtz (Walter), Nancy Jamieson (the late Bill), Margaret Barrett (Fred), Dan Ulrick and son-in-law Michael Schneider (the late Joyce); loving grandmother to Rosemary, Gregory, Catherine and Laura Holtz Francis (Harry); Ryan, Sarah Jane Dixon (Tim) and Matthew Barrett (Chandler) and Mary Schneider Söln (Johnny). She was the doting great grandmother to Zachary and Riley Francis, Elodie Söln, Ella and Declan Dixon, and Annabelle Barrett. Carmel will be missed by her sister Rita Row (Dick), and sisters -in-law Monica Allard (Elmer) and Marilyn Ulrick (Eric), Marilyn Kelly (Desmond) and by a close connection of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Frank Ulrick, her daughter Joyce and grandson David Schnieder, son-in-law Bill Jamieson, her brothers Leo, Desmond, Gerald, Leonard, Joseph and Michael; sisters-in-law Irene Graff (Howard), Betty Gallagher (Bernard), Gladys Hummel (Leroy), and brothers-in-law Elmer Allard and Dick Row.
Carmel’s chosen vocations were teacher, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, Women’s Institute member, Catholic Women's League member, and 4-H leader. Carmel was known for her homemaking talents, leadership skills in community work, and dedication to her faith and family, including the wide network on both sides of the Kelly/Ulrick family tree. Her hallmark gifts were humility and humour, wit and wisdom, generosity and compassion. Carmel and Frank shared over 50 happy years together and raised their children on the family farm, in the heart of the Chisholm farming community amidst the love of close family and friends. Everywhere Carmel has lived, including The Eighth Line, Butler Drive, The Pines, McVittie Place in Bracebridge and finally Muskoka Shores (where she has been a special favourite), she has valued and nurtured rich, long-lasting friendships. She will be greatly missed by all who have known and loved her.
