Passed away at Nipissing Serenity Hospice in North Bay on Tuesday May 20, 2025, at the age of 79.
She was the much-loved mother of Sonya Whittaker of Barrie.
Cheryl (nee Moore) was predeceased by her husband, Donald “Donnie” Wagner (1941-2024); her daughter Lana Wagner (1967-1989); her parents Jean (nee Sawyer) and Stanley Moore; and her sister Fay Whittaker (Lloyd of Powassan and Florida).
Cheryl is survived by her sister, Maxine Amond (Andy) of North Bay.
Born and raised in Golden Valley, Cheryl moved to Powassan after marrying. While raising her daughters, she held a variety of jobs - including waitressing, office cleaning, home care and working in the office at Sportspal Canoe.
Cheryl had a deep love of the outdoors, especially partridge hunting and fishing, both in summer and winter. With her husband and father both serving as fishing guides on Lake Nipissing, the water was always a part of her life. Cheryl and her dear friend Joan Coutts were known to spend nights in the ice hut when it was on Lake Nipissing. Later, when she and Donnie had to return to Wasi Lake from Florida due to the pandemic, they continued their tradition - setting up the hut right in front of their home and ice fished daily.
Cheryl and Donnie were known for their warmth, generosity, and fun-loving spirit, hosting countless gatherings with their trademark “open door” hospitality.
Cremation has taken place. A private interment of Cheryl’s ashes will be held alongside her husband Donnie at Nipissing Cemetery.
In memory of Cheryl, donations to Nipissing Serenity Hospice would be gratefully appreciated.
