At North Bay Regional Health Centre on Friday, September 8, 2023 in his 90th year. David was predeceased by his daughter Melinda Tomlinson and is survived by his wife Dierdre (New); his daughter Beth (Craig Jones); his grandson Booker; and his sister Sylvia Hillier.

David was a highly respected and awarded landscape architect in both Canada and England. He was made an emeritus member of the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (1999) and was rewarded an Ontario Lieutenant Governor Heritage Award (2011). In 2020 he was recognized by the town of Aurora with the naming of the David Tomlinson Nature Reserve. David was perhaps best known for his own personal garden in Aurora that each year he and Deirdre opened to the public, receiving thousands of visitors annually.
