Denis Lalonde Death Notice

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Denis Guy Joseph Lalonde on Monday, November 20 at the age of 77 at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

Denis was born and raised in Clarence Creek, a small town East of Ottawa. Family was very important to him and he often visited uncles, aunts, and cousins and loved to talk about the old days and find out more about his family’s ancestry. Denis was known as a bit of a rebel and loved to drive cars as fast as he could, much to the detriment of his passengers who clung on for dear life in the car. He also enjoyed playing cards and hunting with friends and family, before he decided to trade in his guns for a camera.

Denis was passionate about photography. He could see things in nature that no one else could see. His favourite subjects were flowers, waterfalls, horse ploughing, nude photography, and later on in his career, he ventured into abstract work with his auto galaxies collection - some of his best work! He took many photography and darkroom classes to expand his passion. He loved it so much that he built a darkroom in his basement. Thankfully, many have been gifted with framed photos over the years which will surely be cherished for years to come.

He was a drywaller by trade and a perfectionist when it came to his work. He spent most of his younger years travelling to where the work was, and decided to settle in North Bay. After many years of being self-employed, he eventually worked in Toronto where he could work all year long rather than seasonally and get a pension for his much-deserved and very late retirement at the age of 67. Toronto also gave him the opportunity to buy and wear beautiful shirts, ties and suits. He was always well-dressed!

He will be remembered by his daughter, Nathalie Bester (Darrell), his sisters Annette Ventura (John) and Nicole Sabourin (Roger) and his cousin who was more like a brother, Ernest Lalonde (Clairette), as well as many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his parents, Tiburce and Jeanne, his brothers Aurèle (Marie), Raymond (Renata) and Michel, and his best friends Albert Lalonde and Jacques Fortin.

As per Denis’ wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.
