Diana Georgie Death Notice

Diana passed away peacefully at Eastholme, surrounded by her family on April 11, 2026. She was 81 years old.

Diana was the loving wife of John Georgie; mother of Michael Georgie of Powassan and Dawn Sowman (Rick) of Innisfil; and grandmother of Christopher (Amy), Darick, and Laurel. Diana is survived by her sister Anna Jane Bonang of Nova Scotia and predeceased by her brother John.

Born on April 10, 1945 in Timmins, Ontario to Lionel and Trudy Chenier, Diana’s formative years were spent in Toronto where she was later married on July 17, 1965 (61 years ago).

South Himsworth, Powassan and Trout Creek are where Diana and John chose to live, raise their family and be an integral part of those communities. Serving on various boards and committees, Diana was well known for her cooking and baking at events throughout the area.

That community-mindedness led Diana to further her education in Municipal Law, Municipal Tax Collection and achieving the Accredited Municipal Clerks and Treasurers (AMCT) designation. She used that knowledge as the Deputy Clerk-Treasurer for South Himsworth Township and for 20 years and as the Clerk-Treasurer for Strong Township before retiring in 2009.

In retirement, Diana continued her commitment to community through singing and playing guitar at St Joseph’s Church in Powassan, volunteering for Right to Life, curling, gardening and in May 2015, committed to the Rite of Profession with the St. Pio Franciscan Fraternity of Secular Franciscans Order (SFO) in North Bay.

December 2019, Diana moved into Eastholme for the Aged in Powassan. There she enjoyed the many activities and music provided, the community and the generosity of St. Joseph’s Church to conduct Mass each week.

Our Family would like to thank the staff at Eastholme for their support and loving care of our matriarch throughout the past seven years.

The Georgie family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 15 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church, Powassan. Interment of ashes will take place at Nipissing Cemetery at a later date.
