Doreen Elaine (Schofield) Hawthorne

April 23, 1939 – October 29, 2025

Doreen passed peacefully on October 29, 2025, while residing at Eastholme for the Aged in Powassan, where she had made her home for the past nine years.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 37 years, Keith Hawthorne; her parents, Kathleen and Harry Schofield; her sister, Shirley Peck (Wilfred); and her brother, Richard Schofield (Lillian), as well as many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her loving children, Lori Stillar (Gary) and William Hawthorne; and her grandchildren, Amy Stillar Gagnon (Tony), Darcy Stillar (Sarah), Brittany Stillar (Kris Lessard), Veronica Hawthorne, and Greggory Hawthorne. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Dakota Gagnon (Jodie Reichheld), Jackson Purdon, Evelyn Stillar, and Elliot Stillar.

Doreen is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Kathy Size (predeceased Keith), Colleen Cascannette, and Coreen Kenyon (Wayne), her brother-in-law Allan Hawthorne (Irene), along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Doreen spent many years working in the insurance industry and enjoyed wintering in Florida, where she made cherished memories with family and friends. She loved playing cards and dominoes, and she was always ready for a friendly game. She was an active member of her community and was deeply involved in the TOPS program alongside her dear friend Linda. Above all, Doreen treasured time spent with her family—ensuring everyone was cared for, welcomed, and loved.

Her kindness, sharp wit, and generous spirit will be remembered always.

A private graveside service has taken place. A celebration of Doreen’s life will be held November 8, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Average Joe’s Eatery, North Bay (lower level).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Parkinson Canada, Eastholme Residents Fund, or a charity of your choice is suggested.
