Doug passed peacefully, with his family by his side, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Nipissing Serenity Hospice, North Bay. He was 77 years old.
Doug was predeceased by his wife Donna (Strongman) (1949-2020).
He was the beloved father of Michael (Tanya) of Arnstein, Kimberly (Terry Summers) of Port Loring and Tara (Scott Hampel) of Port Loring. Papa will be lovingly remembered by grandchildren: Ashley (Dan), Geena, Cole, Jayden (Kyra), Dylan, Kaleb (Josee), Kirystyn, Megan, Lily, Shaylynn; and great-grandchildren: Chelsea and Lauren.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Ina (Howey) and Anthony “Tony” Buchanan, and his brothers Arthur “Tupp” Buchanan (the late Joyce) and Joseph Howey. He is survived by his sister Valerie Kikkajoon (Jaak) of Moonstone.
Doug was the dear son-in-law of the late Jean (Dunstan) and Don Strongman, and will be fondly remembered by his Strongman siblings-in-law.
Doug was a lifelong Project Manager in road construction; building roads throughout the province, and managing Greater Toronto Area sand camps and snow removal for decades. In retirement, Doug volunteered on the Argyle Local Roads Board and served as Chair for many years.
Doug joined the Masons when he was a young man; he was a member of the Powassan Masonic Lodge. Good friendships continued with fellow members throughout his life.
As per Doug’s wish, no services will be held. His family will celebrate his life privately.
