Ernie died peacefully after a short illness, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Lakeland Long Term Care, Parry Sound. He was 94 years old.
Ernie was predeceased by his wife Marion (Clapperton) (1933-2018), his son Darwin (1956 - 1965) and infant daughter Joy. He was the much-loved father of Darlene Frederick (Albert) of Port Loring, Pam Phillips (Barry) of Loring, and Darcy Bain (Ginette) of Parry Sound. He will be lovingly remembered by grandchildren Scott Frederick (Devitta), Rolanne Simms (Ted), Travis (Sarah) and Joscelyn Phillips (Russell McKenzie), Tristan (Carly) and Shaylynn Bain and great-grandchildren Tanner (Sophie), Kylen, Hunter, Davis, Alyssa, Samantha, Olympia, Abigail, Drusilla and Beatrix. The last of his generation, Ernie was predeceased by his sisters Erla Weller, Helen King, and Darla Clapperton and brothers Eddy, Ivan, Walter, and Rodney Bain.
Ernie enjoyed a long career with the Department of Lands and Forests (Ministry of Natural Resources), retiring as Wildlife Management Supervisor. He was well known throughout the Argyle, Powassan and Restoule areas for his integrity, fairness and professionalism in the execution of his duties. Ernie enjoyed his retirement on Dollars Lake, moving only a few years ago to Parry Sound.
The Bain family received visitors on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at the Arnstein Gospel Hall. The funeral service was held Monday, June 1 and can viewed here. Interment took place at Loring Community Cemetery.
