Frank died peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, after a long period of declining health, at Nipissing Serenity Hospice, North Bay, on Sunday, June 9, 2024. He was 85 years old.
Frank was the beloved husband of Sharon (Bartraw-Samuels) of Powassan and the late Rita (Jarbeau).
He was the much-loved father of Daniel Smith (Elizabeth) of Cold Lake, AB, Brenda Lett (Allan) of Sudbury, Shane Smith of Barrie, Lori-Ann Smith of South River, Brian Smith (Rhonda) of Wasaga Beach, Debbie Brown (Greg) of Cranbrook, BC, the late (stillborn) Dawn Rita Smith and stepfather of Sheldon Samuels (Tammy) of New Lowell, Scott Samuels (Julia) of New Lowell, and Lori Samuels (Shawn) of Barrie.
Frank will be lovingly remembered by 18 grandchildren: Matthew, Kaleigh, Alexis, Tyler, Alexander, Tia, Jordon, Shailynn, Madisynn, Cole, Ellie, Caitlin, Kylee, Jared, Rachel, Camden, Eve and Brody. He was predeceased by grandchildren Alyssa, Davis and Kurtus.
Frank was the dear brother of Don Smith (Bernadette) of Cobourg, Mervin Smith (Betty-Ann) of Mississauga, the late Faye Racicot (late Paul), Janice Brownrigg (William) of Sundridge, Michael Smith (Peggy) of Emsdale, Frances Purdon (Ed) of North Bay, William Smith (Susan) of Sundridge and the late “little” Howard Smith. Frank was predeceased by his parents Fannie A. (Parkes) and Howard F. Smith.
Frank enjoyed a long career in education, retiring as elementary principal from the East Parry Sound Board of Education (now Near North District).
The Smith family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 15 at 11:00 am. in the funeral home. Cremation will be followed by interment of ashes at Strong Cemetery, Sundridge.
