Stuart Taggart died peacefully, family by his side, at North Bay Regional Health Centre, on Monday, January 15, 2024. He was 85 years old.
Stuart was the beloved husband of Elva (Storey) of Trout Creek, and father of Charles Taggart (Lisa) of Calgary, AB, Christina Hollands (Timothy) of Trout Creek, and Catherine Taggart (Scott) of Trout Creek. He will be lovingly remembered by grandchildren Riley (Logane), Briannah, Aislyn, Julia and Chris; and great-granddaughters Hali and Kaycee.
Stuart was the dear brother of Ross Taggart (Gail) and was predeceased by his brothers John Taggart (Jean, surviving) and David Taggart (Heather, surviving).
Stuart owned and operated Almaguin Insurance Brokerage and Almaguin Tax Services. He
proudly served in the Canadian Navy and was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association. Stuart generously shared his knowledge, speaking at Remembrance Day services in schools and halls around the area. He was very active in the Royal Canadian Legion, with a special focus on children and educational programs.
Over the years Stuart served on the boards of the Trout Creek Agricultural Society, The Trout Creek Community Centre, The South River Cattlemen’s Association, the Laurier Roads Board, Almaguin 887 Air Cadets Squadron, Huntington College Board of Regents and the Laurier Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Kinsmen K-40 Club; and both he and Elva were active, lifelong members of Trout Creek United Church.
The Taggart family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan, on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm and on Friday, January 19 from 10:00 until 11:00 am. A Legion Tribute Service will take place Thursday at 6:45 pm. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11:00 am. Spring interment Trout Creek Union Cemetery.
