Grace Conrad Death Notice

CONRAD, Grace Noela

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Grace Noela Conrad (nee Delorme) on Monday, August 9, 2021 in her 88th year at Nipissing Serenity Hospice. She is predeceased by Lorne Joseph Conrad, her husband of 70 years whom she loved and missed greatly after his passing in March 2021.

Grace was born on December 17, 1933 in Chiswick, Ontario. She was the third and youngest child of Michael (Mac) Delorme and Virginie Delorme (Chevrier). Her dearly loved sisters are Yvonne McEvoy and Gisèle Larivière (deceased).

Nothing meant more to Grace than her family. She put all her energy into raising her four children, Ken, Keith, Carol, and Sandra. She was a proud grandmother and deeply loved her 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Nanny was at the centre of their lives, taking part in their daily activities when they were younger, having them to her house for spontaneous sleepovers and so many card games. She was always thrilled to see them and hear all about what they were up to as they started careers and their own families.

Grace possessed a giving, loving, empathetic, and compassionate heart. She was always ready to visit and help an ailing or elderly relative and welcomed all who visited her home on the farm, at the lake, or in her apartment. She was a caring friend to many and possessed the ability to really listen and the practical intelligence to help find solutions to problems.

We all appreciated Grace’s sharp sense of humour, her easy laugh, and her warm smile. She would often say the funniest things, sometimes by accident, but always delightful.

A gifted and accomplished seamstress, Grace made many of her own beautiful clothes. She sewed countless clothes, toys, costumes over the years to the delight of her children and grandchildren.

She was also a talented cook and baker. Grace’s sea pie, baked beans, cookies, stews, soups, jams, and pickles were eagerly consumed by her family. She hosted countless family meals, and they never disappointed.

Grace spent much time tending to her garden in Chisholm Township on Wassi Lake. She loved the lake property and made it more beautiful with her many flower beds, blue being her favourite colour of flower.

Even though she was unable to attend church in the last years of her life, Grace still had a strong faith and was dedicated to daily prayers for her long list of loved ones.

Grace’s strength and determination were an inspiration. A stroke left her paralyze on her right side in 2012. Despite this challenge, she stuck to a schedule of exercise and self-care that kept her mobile and well for many years.

We are devastated by our loss, and we will miss you very much. You have been loved as much as you have loved those around you.

For those who wish, donations in Grace’s memory can be made to Nipissing Serenity Hospice (nipissingserenityhospice.ca). We are tremendously grateful to the staff and volunteers of the hospice for the many weeks of care and kindness they showed our Grace.
