STEGENGA, Hendrikus “Hank/Henry”
Hank died peacefully, after a lengthy battle with cancer, surrounded by family, at his home in Powassan, Ontario on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. He was 81 years old. Hank was the life-long best friend and beloved husband of Ruth Ellen (Nelson) of Powassan. He was the much-loved father of Joan and Peter Schelling, Rob and Jen Stegenga and James and Ashley Stegenga, all of City of Kawartha Lakes; grandfather of Jacob MacEachern, Anna Schelling (Sam Tyler), Paul Schelling, Austin Stegenga and Chloe Stegenga; and great-grandfather of Dakota MacEachern. Hank was the dear brother of Hilda Nettinga (Bill, deceased), Grace Van Halteren (Bill, deceased), Henny Albers (Henk) and brother-in-law of David Nelson (Normajean), all of City of Kawartha Lakes, and sister Ann Cook (Kevin-deceased, Roger Cook) of Plainfield. He was predeceased by his parents Maartje (Reinbergen) and Johannes “John” Stegenga, brother Ben Stegenga (Janny, deceased) and infant sister Grace. Hank spent his life mastering the art of butchery, a craft he inherited and honed under the guidance of his father. The shop was located on County Road 8 between Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. The Stegenga family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan, on Saturday, December 14th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm; and at Jennings Creek C.R.C., Lindsay, on Friday, December 20th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will follow in the church on Saturday, December 21st at 11:00 am. Reception immediately after the service in the church followed by interment in Fenelon Falls Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
