It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jack Miller on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, surrounded by his family, at Algonquin Grace Hospice in Huntsville, Ontario. He was in his 95th year.
Jack was born in Windsor, Ontario but spent his childhood in the rural town of Alton, Nova Scotia. Hunting and fishing were Jack’s passions from an early age. Fishing in the local brook for trout, or hunting rabbits and white-tailed deer were common pastimes. Sometimes even when said game was in season!
In 1946, Jack left for Toronto to pursue his fortune in the big city. Fate would have him meet the love of his life, Elsie Ruth Phillips on a blind date and it was love at first sight. After several dates, and Jack’s travel to Arnstein to the Phillips family farm, he was hooked on life in the north. Finding joy in frequent fishing trips to LeGrou’s Lake, Jack and Elsie picked a wooded lot and built a cottage that would see four generations of Millers during his lifetime. Jack and Elsie enjoyed 73 wonderful years together.
Jack held a deep love of family and they meant the world to him. He spent most of his life focused on enjoying time with his family and telling stories of their exploits, much to the chagrin of anyone who would listen. He loved music and a good glass of wine. Fishing, hunting, snowmobiling or just spending time with family at the cottage was when he was happiest. His love of the outdoors was passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Jack will be sadly missed by his three children, Trish (Simon) Moussa, Kim (Allan) Ralph and Mike (Pam) Miller. His grandchildren Tyler (Mandy), Shawn (Aide), Garrett, Kris, Jamie, Audrey, Finley and Sullivan and his great-grandson Callum. Jack is survived by his siblings Nelson Miller and Darlene Monro and was predeceased by Lawrence Miller.
Jack lived a wonderful life and touched the hearts and lives of many people. He lives on in the sound of the laughter of his family and many stories echoing across the lake at the cottage.
A special thanks to the staff of Huntsville District Memorial Hospital for their excellent care of Jack and especially Dr. Harrold for her kindness and compassion.
Family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating Jack’s life on Sunday, August 4 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the place he loved best; his cottage on LeGrou’s lake.
