With profound sadness, the family of James "Jim" Moore announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at North Bay Regional Health Centre, following a period of declining health. He was 88 years old.
A pillar of the local community, Jim was a man whose life was defined by service, entrepreneurship, and an unwavering commitment to his family. In 1967, Jim laid the foundation for what would become a local legacy, founding Jim Moore Petroleum, followed by Moore Propane Ltd. His fleet of trucks became a familiar sight across the North, and Jim was respected as a fair-minded businessman who believed a handshake was as good as a contract.
Jim was rarely idle. When he wasn’t building his business, he was building his community. He was a dedicated member of the Powassan Masonic Lodge No. 443, a tireless volunteer with the Powassan Lions Club, and a faithful member of the Powassan United Church. He lived by the creed of helping those who could not help themselves, often participating in local events and fundraisers with his trademark good humour.
Above all, Jim was a family man. He taught his children the value of hard work, the importance of integrity, and the necessity of a well-timed joke. Jim is survived by his children Susan Moore of North Bay, Michael Moore (Julie) of Callander, Wendy Moore-Hill (Rob) of Haliburton and Bruce Moore (Maria) of North Bay and their mother Lynda Moore of North Bay. Jim is also survived by Shirley (Campbell) Moore.
He will be lovingly remembered by 11 grandchildren: Kayla, Matthew, Megan, Joshua, Jennie, Jesse, McKenzie, Ryan, Sophia, Anna and Stefanie and five great-grandchildren: Ezekiel, Niyah, Oakley, Evelyn and Lyla.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Vera (Knight) and Lloyd Moore and his brother John Moore (Sharon, surviving).
Jim will be remembered for his generous spirit, his deep love for his family and community, and his ability to make everyone feel like an old friend.
The family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Masonic Lodge tribute service will take place at 1:45 pm and a Powassan Lions tribute service at 3:45 pm. Visitors will also be received on Saturday, January 31 from noon to 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, with the funeral service at 1:00 pm and a reception following at the Powassan Legion Hall. Spring interment will take place at Nipissing Cemetery.
In memory of Jim’s lifelong commitment to helping others, his family would appreciate donations to the Powassan Lions Club.
