With her children by her side, Joan died peacefully, at North Bay Regional Health Centre, on Friday, March 28, 2025. She was 88 years old. Joan (Anderson) was predeceased by her husband Alvin Cyril Phillips (1932-2015). She was the beloved mother of Andy (Karina Costa) of North Bay and Marian (Scott MacGregor) of Midhurst. She will be lovingly remembered by four grandchildren: Bronwyn, Gavin and Lauren MacGregor and Sofia Phillips-Costa.
Joan was predeceased by her parents Marion “Jean” (Brown) (1902-1992) and Newton Thompson Anderson (1897-1987), and her twin sisters Esther Ruth Anderson (1939-1982) and Elsie Patricia Arnold (1939-1991) (Doug, of Ottawa).
Joan was a much-loved educator in Toronto, North Bay and Trout Creek, frequently earning the accolade “favourite teacher” by her students. She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada.
Joan’s family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan, on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 8, at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Spring interment Boxwell Cemetery, Chisholm.
