June Chalmers died peacefully, at Hospice Simcoe, in Barrie, on Friday December 22, 2023 at the age of 91 with her children by her side. June workedas a school secretary for the Simcoe County District School Board (29 years) She started at Innisfil Central Public School (4 years) then Goodfellow Public School from the day it opened until her retirement in 1997 (25 years). June was an avid curler and long-time member of the Barrie Curling Club (over 40 years). She continued even after she and Sonny moved to their beloved “Top of the World” home in Loring, ON, making the long drive down for her beloved sport. June was married to Alfred (Sonny) Chalmers for 63 years before he passed away in 2021. She is very much loved by her children, Michael Chalmers (Tracy) of Loring, Mark Chalmers (Cathy) of Barrie, John Chalmers (Sandy) of Barrie and Janet (Phil Hammell) of Midhurst. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Shawn, Jordon, Lindsay, Kristin, Troy, Kyle, Caitlynn, Morgan and Sienna, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. June was pre-deceased by her siblings, Grace Morrison, Georgina Twitchin, Evelyn Crisp and Ian Ewing. June’s family would like to thank Dr Andrea Harvey at RVH, Dr Jacky (Chung Kit) Lai at RVH and all the staff and volunteers at Hospice Simcoe. What an amazing group of people so full of compassion and dedication to their work. You are true Heros in our eyes. Cremation has taken place. A “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Barrie Curling Club on Essa Road in Barrie, ON from 1:00 to 5:00 on Sunday May 19, 2024. Please note that as it is on the upper level of the Curling Club it is not wheelchair accessible.
