Karen Higgins Death Notice

In Loving Memory of Karen Higgins of March 7, 1943 – May 29, 2025, a celebration of her life, will be held at Sand Lake United Church, 77 Higgins Road, Kearney, on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 2:00 pm. (Directions: Off Highway #11, south of Burks Falls, take Highway # 518, Emsdale exit, east all the way to Higgins Road).

Following the service her ashes will be buried in the church cemetery, and Immediately after ALL family and friends are invited to a luncheon reception in the Kearney Community Centre, 8 Main Street, Kearney (across from Fetterly’s Garage). Casual attire and lawn chairs are suggested.

Karen Higgins, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at the age of 82 with her sister, Marlene by her side.
Karen was the beloved daughter of Richard Philip Higgins and Winnifred (Wood) Higgins. She was a cherished sister to Lois Horan (Desmond, predeceased), Jack Higgins (predeceased, husband to Jackie), Shirley Dzuirban (predeceased, wife to Alfred), Marlene Coleman (Jim), and Dennis Higgins (predeceased, husband to Lynn). She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Summers at the family cottage on Sand Lake were especially treasured times together.

Born and raised in Capreol, Ontario Karen lived a life grounded in faith and love for her family. She was a devoted lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Capreol, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. Her gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Karen was also an active member of the Rebekkah Lodge, where she proudly served as Noble Grand.
In her younger years, Karen was an avid swimmer and once bravely saved a man from drowning in the Vermillion River. She also loved to skate and expressed her creativity through fabric painting, wood sculpting and gardening.

For many years, Karen called Eastholme her home. She deeply appreciated and loved the Eastholme staff, who became like family to her. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the entire Eastholme staff for the compassionate, exemplary care Karen received, especially over these past few months.
A special thank you is also extended to Ed and Nancy Brooks for their spiritual support and kind friendship they offered Karen throughout the years.
Karen lived a gentle, giving life. Her kindness and faith will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
