Laura Elna (Vester) Hughes

Laura died peacefully, surrounded by family, at North Bay Regional Health Centre, on Friday, December 27, 2024. She was 82 years old.

Laura (Vester) was predeceased by her husband Murray William Hughes (1935-2004), and granddaughter Michele. She was the much-loved mother of Evan (Donna Brown) of Powassan, David (Laura) of Barrie, Kevin (Tammy) of Powassan, Terry (Shirley) of Powassan, Barry (Audrey) of Keswick, and Larry (Doris) of Powassan. She will be lovingly remembered by 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Laura was the dear sister of Bill Vester (Jane) of Rutherglen and was predeceased by her siblings Dorothy Neely (late Gord), Mickey Vester (Mary), John Vester (Lois of Powassan), Leonard Vester (Dolores Vester of North Bay), Eric Vester (Isabelle of North Bay) and Lloyd Vester (Barb of Powassan) and infant brother Sammy.

Laura was retired from Nipissing Game Farm. She was a lifelong farmer and homemaker, well-known locally for her exceptional baking and generosity with her creations. Laura loved being in her gardens, both flowers and vegetables and shared the bounty of both.

Cremation has taken place. Graveside service Powassan Union Cemetery, Saturday June 14, 2025 11:00 am. followed by a celebration of Laura’s life at the Powassan Legion Hall.
