Lucille Ruth "Celie" Dobbs Death Notice

DOBBS, Lucille Ruth “Celie”

Celie died peacefully, at North Bay Regional Health Centre, on Sunday, March 12, 2023. She was in her 90th year.

Celie was predeceased by her husbands Clifford Landon (1930-1960) and Berton Dobbs (1934-2011), her son Stephen Landon (1950-2013) (Debra Cousineau of Deep River) and her daughter Heather Beatty (1953-2020) (the late Robert “Bob”). She was the much-loved mother of Jim Landon (Kathy) of Callander and Brad Dobbs (Barb) of North Bay; Grandmother of Corey, Curtis, Amie, Shannon (Andrew), Shawn (Hillary), Amber (Jeremy), Todd (Lindsay), Krystle (Tim), Natasha (Joel) and Kyle; and great-grandmother of Jesse, Brittney (Riley), Abbey, Zoe, Morgan, Amanda, Taylor (Brittley), Teagan, Riley, Maddox, Bella, Lily, Greyson and Lincoln; and great-great-grandchildren Layla, Khloe and Jonah. Celie was predeceased by her parents Stella (Clapperton) and Walter Rogerson. She was the dear sister of Genevieve Brunne (the late Don) of North Bay, Karma Lepple (Bob) of Astorville and Carol Brooks (the late Ron) of Port Loring. She was predeceased by her sister Pat Whitehead and brothers Barry Rogerson (the late Bonnie) and Loyal Rogerson (Loredana of Loring). She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Lucille was born in Port Loring on May 4, 1933. She was the second child of Stella (Clapperton) and Walter Rogerson. She attended Loring Public School and Port Loring High School. Celie met James Clifford Landon and they married in 1949 in Powassan. Cliff worked for Ontario Hydro which took them all over the province. While they were in Matheson they had a new arrival, Stephen. Then they moved to Kapuskasing where Heather and Jim were born. Cliff died April 30, 1959; therefore, Lucille moved her family back to Port Loring.

She met Berton Dobbs and they were married on June 10, 1961 in Golden Valley. They lived on the Dobbs family farm and had a son, Brad, in 1963. In 1968 it was decided to move to Callander where everything would be more convenient.

Over the years Lucille had many jobs. She worked at Russell Quick Insurance, Photo Metro, Style-Rite, Reitman’s, North Himsworth Township and Museum, Foodland and finally at Canada Post where she retired in 1997 as Post Mistress.

Lucille liked shopping, knitting, reading, watching TV and movies. She enjoyed her family and friends.
