HICKEY, Michael William – Retired O.P.P.

Michael William Hickey (Mike) passed away peacefully at his home in Powassan, with family by his side, on Thursday, June 2, 2022. Mike was the beloved husband of Valerie (Brazeau) Hickey, recently celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary on May 1, 2022. He was the proud father of Moe (Christine) and Heather; and grandfather of Carter, Megan and Clara Hickey. Mike was the eldest of seven children born to the late Theresa (Tehan) and Bill Hickey. He was the dear brother of Julie, Pat, Leo, Peggy (predeceased), Don and Ed.

Mike was a former member of the Ontario Provincial Police, serving in Minden and Powassan for 43 years. Over the course of Mike’s career as Provincial Constable, he often served as Detective Constable with the North Bay Crime Unit. Mike loved hockey, was an avid Leafs fan and attended every game of grandson Carter’s that he could manage.

The Hickey family would like to extend sincere gratitude to all the health professionals who have cared for Mike over the last several years; particularly Dr. John Seguin, Carol and Kerri.

The Hickey family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan (531 Main Street) on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 10:00 am to until time of funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Powassan Union Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mike to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice are suggested.
