Milton Russel "Russ/Rusty" Harmer

Russ Harmer passed away peacefully at the Nipissing Manor Nursing Centre in Corbeil, Ontario on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.  He was 86 years old.

Russ was predeceased by his wife of 37 Years, Viola Harmer (Gruber) (1938 – 2015).   Also predeceased by his stepsons Billy White (Deanna) of St. Thomas, Mike White of London and Brian White (Michelle) of BC.

He was the much-loved father of Vicky Harmer-Steele (Brian) of Orillia, Timothy Harmer (Dena) of North Bay; and stepfather of Marion Bell (Doug) of Barrie, Paul Gruber (Linda) and Kathy Ross of Kitchener, Phillip White (Susan) of Thunder Bay and Steven White (Gwen) of Swastika. He will be lovingly remembered by 27 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Russ was the last of three children born to Lavina Elizabeth (Kent) and Robert John Harmer. He was predeceased by his siblings Irene Hannaford and Heber Harmer. 

Prior to retirement, Russ was a longtime gas fitter with Superior Propane. He and Vi retired to Powassan where Russ was well known and much appreciated for his harmonica playing, particularly at the Powassan United Church and at Senior’s events. 

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Russ’ life will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan, followed by a luncheon and time of fellowship. Placement of Ashes will take place at All Saints Mausoleum, North Bay.
