PETERSON, Richard (Rick) Christopher
Rick knocked on Heaven’s door and the door, sadly, opened for him on February 4, 2023 at North Bay Regional Health Centre. He was surrounded by the love of his family who were by his side the entirety of his hospital stay.
Taken too soon from his loving wife, Simona, his guardian angel and rock, as he called her. Rick loved her beyond words, as well as his children Adam (Lori), Dylan (Tammy), Serena (Shawn) and Jared (Carley). He was a loving, proud Papa to his grandchildren, Jaxon, Quentin, Henry, Kipton, Aubree, Bronsyn, Blake and Ryleigh.
Rick and his wife enjoyed many adventures together, travelling across Canada, living in the Yukon for a number of years. Rick was the Circulation Manager and Editorial Cartoonist of the Whitehorse Star Daily newspaper. Upon returning to Ontario, he obtained a position at Fabrene as a Lab Analyst. Their biggest adventure, however, was their beautiful children, whom he loved beyond words and was very proud of.
Rick coached and assistant coached baseball for his children’s teams in Powassan and hockey teams in Powassan and North Bay. He also encouraged his wife to become a goalie, just as he was for various teams in Powassan, Astorville and North Bay. As well, he was an accomplished woodworker, making many beautiful creations around the home and for family. He was a true craftsman and handyman. If he didn’t know how to do it, he learned quickly. He was always ready to give advice, guidance, and assistance to his children. When their sugar shack was destroyed by weather, he and his family went about building a new one. He loved doing this with his family and it brought him great pride and joy. It was his favourite spot.
Rick is survived by his sister Krystyna Higgins (Michael), his mother-in-law, Romana Novak and was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Bolislav Peterson, and father-in-law, Frank Novak. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, including many nieces and nephews.
Rick was a private, humble man and as such, honouring his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a private family event. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brain Tumour Foundation (braintumour.ca), the Kidney Foundation (kidney.ca), or a charity of your choice in his honour, would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks to the doctors and nurses in C3 and CCU, who showed tremendous care and compassion to Rick and his family during his time there. Many thanks as well to Dr. Scott Houghton and staff for the continuing care and assistance he received through the years.
Our heartbreaking sorrow is Heaven’s gain.
