Wilfred Ambrose Schell

Wilfred Schell, of Powassan, passed peacefully at Nipissing Serenity Hospice on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the remarkable age of 100.

Beloved husband of Joyann (Phillips), Wilfred and Joyann shared over 70 years of marriage.

He was the loving father of Sandra Hogan (Greg), Judy Boller, and Donna Schell; grandfather to Mark Hogan (Janet), Diane Wallace (Wayne), Leonard, Nathan, and Angela Boller; and great-grandfather to Hailey, Ethan, Brody, Emma, Jonathan, and Caelum.

He is survived by his brothers Edwin “Bud” Schell (the late Gladys) and Ken Schell (the late Shirley). 

Wilfred joined Canadian National Railway as a teenager and dedicated 43 years to his career, serving as a Section Foreman and retiring as a Roadmaster. He was well respected for his steady leadership and strong work ethic.

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fiddling, crokinole, horseshoes, and visiting with friends. Known for his friendly conversations and sense of humour, Wilfred was always ready with a smile and a memorable saying.

Wilfred will be remembered for his kindness, his devotion to family, and his lifelong appreciation for hard work.

Visitation will be held at Paul Funeral Home, Powassan on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm. Interment at Powassan Union Cemetery will follow.

Donations in Wilfred’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Nipissing Serenity Hospice.
