I’m Marian’s brother-in-law Brian. Although I had met Al only a few times, one time in particular stands out as a fond memory for me. I was working up at a camp one summer in Huntsville, and Marian suggested I come up for a couple days to see all the Powassan tourist sites and to meet her parents. Before I left the camp, Marian told me to bring my laundry so I could do it there. Little did anyone know I had accumulated a good months worth of really dirty clothes. Long story short, I left my laundry in the Phillips' basement and I and everyone else except Al forgot to get around to washing them. Although I had never met Al before, he graciously washed all my clothes and had managed to put everything out on the clothesline before I even woke up the next day. His explanation for helping me, it needed to get done, the news had said the evening before it was going to rain that afternoon. A very typical way I’ve been told Al lived his life. Willing to help anyone at anytime, including a stranger like me, in his own quite and reserved way. My condolences to the Phillips family during this difficult time.

Dear Joan, Marian, Andy and Family
We were honoured and proud to share our role as grandparents with Al. He was a fine man - kind, caring, skillful and knowledgeable in so many fields. During a recent conversation with Al, he was still providing us with his sound home renovating advice - "For sure, you must wait before painting your new concrete floor" - and that unique, generous gift, we will truly miss.
We will always cherish our fond memories of Al and hearing about his many interests, experiments and garden successes, trials and tribulations.
With a heavy heart, you are in our thoughts - today and always.
